Article: It's becoming increasingly clear Tesla is just another car company -- agree / disagree?

If you aren’t on a road trip, the Tesla doesn’t need to be recharged. So you are comparing 3 minutes to zero minutes here and coming to the conclusion that 3 minutes is better. :ROFLMAO:

Article: It's becoming increasingly clear Tesla is just another car company -- agree / disagree?

Consider for a moment, most of these companies are burdened with tens or hundreds of billions in debt for equipment and assets which are rapidly becoming worthless. When you hear about Jeep shuttering an assembly line (just happened recently), that’s $50-100 million worth of resources which...

I “got stuff to do”, also. It’s why I love that I never have to worry if my car has gas when I leave the house or when I’m coming home from a trip. 90%+ of gas stops are just gone. I’m not sure how you are able to burn 500 miles of gas and add another 500 miles without a single bathroom break...

Article: It's becoming increasingly clear Tesla is just another car company -- agree / disagree?

I added 300 miles of range in 3 seconds when I got home last night. When I road trip my stops usually take about the same amount of time. It takes 3 seconds to plug in the car, then I have to take a leak. Go find a bathroom, often grab some food, then return to the car. I might wait 5 minutes...

Article: It's becoming increasingly clear Tesla is just another car company -- agree / disagree?

It definitely doesn’t affect everyone. For a while GM and a lot of legacy auto companies tried pushing EVs as city cars and argued that range and fast charging weren’t really important for many people. There are definitely people where that works. But even if you don’t road trip all the time, if...

Article: It's becoming increasingly clear Tesla is just another car company -- agree / disagree?

I agree mostly. But what happens if everyone goes bankrupt before they figure out how to scale up EV production profitably? Imagine for a moment that getting EV production right actually takes 10+ years of planning an execution at scale (that’s what Tesla has invested to get to this point)...

Article: It's becoming increasingly clear Tesla is just another car company -- agree / disagree?

I think Tesla coming out of this with a near monopoly is a very real possibility. I don’t think it’s assured by any means, but it’s a real possibility. The other auto-makers still haven’t figured out that charging is the #1 weakness of their products and that nobody else is going to solve this...

Controversial opinion. People over-index on competition too much. In this business there are plenty of niches to chase that there is room for more than one auto company for decades to come. I am convinced that some companies will fail at this juncture, but it’s not a matter of being...

The 1st gen F150 makes me very curious about their next gen truck where they are likely to design for EV first. They have Fields at the helm which should make things interesting.

I really don’t dispute much of what you are saying, but I want to point out here that your own words suggest your perspective isn’t that different from my own. A stop gap measure (your phrase) is a temporary expedient solution to a problem. You are taking umbrage with my use of a slightly more...

Calling their factory “Forward Looking” when it was created in response to multiple years of declining sales and an glaringly obvious threat is a bit of a misnomer. As you suggest in your first paragraph, everything Ford has done to date is stop-gap and reactionary. Ford doesn’t get to be...

Yep. It seems like Tesla is the most likely recipient, but it is all conjecture at this point.

Just to be clear here. We really don’t know where that press is destined. Also… Tesla clearly rolled the Nat 1 last year.

Very solid chance here too, particularly if there is a run up to it. Stock is so low right now I’m not sure.

Is it really or are you just playing off my DnD humor? If it is, I’d love a link to the deets!

Reminds me of the PC wars when you could buy a Mac for too much money, or you could buy a PC for much less but it was preloaded with tons of spyware. Many of the PC makers made more money on the spyware than the computers they sold. No, Tesla does not sell data and I serious doubt they will...
