    To address the OP's issue: The top 20 advertising spenders include 5 automakers Those 5 automakers combined spent about $20 Billion USD last year Tesla spent $0 Most media revenue is derived from advertising.

    Everything in America is designed to be adversarial: governments, politics, the legal system, and culturally as well. In order for me to win, you must lose. I'd like to think we can do better, but it's ingrained at an institutional level.

    Agreed that the dealers have little value-add, and are wary of EVs for the reasons you cite. I don't think they'll ever disappear but I'm envisioning a pullback and consolidation over the next decade. Given how I've been treated at some dealerships, I won't miss them.
