  1. EV sales have doubled. Is a ‘tidal wave’ coming?

Just saw a reference to Musk saying that grid capacity would have to double to insure full BEV adoption. Based on the earlier estimate here of a BEV adding 30% to the average American households consumption that would require each to buy 3 BEV. Wonder what he was thinking?
  2. EV sales have doubled. Is a ‘tidal wave’ coming?

COP = 1/(1 - Th/Tc) thus the theoretical limit can be infinite if the reservoirs are at the same temperature. For the typical geo system ground water might be at 10 °C and the hot water reservoir at 40 °C for theoretical COP = 1/(1 - (273.15 + 15)/(273.15 + 40)) = 12.526 The second law says no...
  3. EV sales have doubled. Is a ‘tidal wave’ coming?

I'd like to get me one of them 6-8 COP heat pumps. Where can I?
  4. EV sales have doubled. Is a ‘tidal wave’ coming?

The reason is the electric heat. In the summer place where we don't use heat (much - this is Canada) nor air conditioning the load, without the Tesla, is 46 kWh/d which is much closer to the average. But that's not why I'm posting. I'm wondering what the electricity usage Gini coefficient might...
  5. EV sales have doubled. Is a ‘tidal wave’ coming?

True Let's go with that. Now how much does the grid have to grow to accomodate that.? 30% over the next 10 - 30 years if every household adds a BEV. That's 1 - 3% growth. I'm really not too concerned about this for the US. There is certainly no question that the metropolitan areas can easily...
  6. EV sales have doubled. Is a ‘tidal wave’ coming?

Just did. For the summer BEV use accounted for 15.7% of our electric demand. This is summertime so no electric use for heating (or A/C - don't need it which is why we come here for the summer). It's equivalent to a continuously on 361 W load. In the winter we tend not to drive so much so...
  7. Daikin develops refrigerant for EVs it says lifts range by 50%

I guess I should add that none of this is to say that Daikin has not identified some substance which substance has steeper isentropic curves on the P-H diagram than does R1234yf and thus requires less energy input per BTU transferred than R1234yf. This would, of course, translate to potential...
  8. Daikin develops refrigerant for EVs it says lifts range by 50%

    ? Let's throw some numbers at this. My X takes about 300 Wh/mi for traction at 60 mph. Let's suppose the A/C compressor takes 1 kW (about a ton of A/C) and runs continuously. At 60 mph that's 1000/60 = 17 Wh/mi additional. With a 100 kWh battery I'd have range of 100000/300 =333.3 mi w/o A/C...
  9. Daikin develops refrigerant for EVs it says lifts range by 50%

For years the auto industry used R12, an HCFC with Global Warming Potential (GWP) = 10,200, but those got banned by the Montreal Convention, you had to get EPA certified to buy it, you had to recover it from any old equipment etc. The industry then switched to R134a, a HFC considered so...
  10. Daikin develops refrigerant for EVs it says lifts range by 50%

As that paragraph is entirely wrong it is hard to place any faith in the rest of the article.
  11. What is this?

Don't want to get too clinical but urine is actually sterile until it hits the air where opportunistic bateria quickly move in.
  12. Dealerships are such hot garbage and need to be taken out

I've done both and I have to say that the experiences did not match the on-line whinging. Not saying that some people haven't had bad experiences with Tesla and conversely not all experiences with traditional dealerships leave one feeling as if he has been dealing with feelthy peecture salesmen...
  13. Tesla Isn't Selling a Car, It's Selling an Experience

That in itself says the sale isn't processed there but rather wherever the server is located. If you buy your Tesla at home whilst seated on the throne the same thing exactly happens. Beyond that "dealership" has a very specific meaning within the auto industry. A dealer is an entity completely...
  14. Tesla Isn't Selling a Car, It's Selling an Experience

Most Applications Crash If Not Then Operating System Halts I often thing about Musk vis-a-vis Jobs and clearly there are commonalities. The one that keeps coming to mind is the story in which someone told Jobs the customers wouldn't want a particular feature he was proposing to which he...
  15. Tesla Isn't Selling a Car, It's Selling an Experience

If you'd just put that at the beginning instead of at the end I wouldn't have wasted 5 minutes.
  16. A Unionized Tesla Workforce Could Benefit All Parties

I think part of the problem for unions is that memories of union abuses are much fresher in the minds of most Americans than memories of robber barons.
  17. A Unionized Tesla Workforce Could Benefit All Parties

Perhaps you have not noticed but this member is always out there looking for Tesla/BEV news that might be of interest to us and posting it here for our convenience. Whether or not he agrees or disagrees with what the articles contain is immaterial. I, for one, think it's about time to say...
